Welcome to camp!
Today’s episode of Weekend Coffee Share is brought to you from Bishop Lake, in Brighton. This is our first time here this year, as our June reservation was cancelled due to COVID. As it turned out, we have a gorgeous fall weekend on tap – low 70s and the fall colors are almost at peak.
Thank you for the good juju – my two presentations I had to give Monday and Tuesday went very well. Even I was happy with it and I usually just see everything that went wrong. I’m glad that piece is behind me and now we are into the support phase. I may have some fixes and changes this week but at least the big part is done. And next year when this same implementation rolls around, I’ll know just what I need to do.
The Haunted Yard Sale I went to turned out to be very cool! Tents and tents of creepy Halloween props and decorations. Even a few Ouija boards..
As a bonus, it was on the site of a historical school.
After I walked through everything, I saw the door was open at the school so I wandered in. OMG! I drive by this every day and I’ve never been inside. I was so happy to see it’s been maintained over the years.
They had refreshments for sale and also some books on the history of the area. Jackpot!
I bought a book on Eloise, a long-closed mental hospital which started as a poorhouse and farm. This is the place I toured several years ago.
I didn’t buy any Halloween stuff though! I saw lots of cool things but nothing I had to have. And I’m trying to downsize. However, they have already posted the date for next year! Another local Halloween tradition.
Tuesday was another nice warm day and I got out to paddle with a friend. This is a new stretch of the Huron I’d been wanted to check out, so I will take you down the river with us in my next Sunday Paddle.
I can’t wait to hit the water! I have my kayak with me and a friend may come out to meet me at the boat ramp. I love taking fall color photos from my boat and it’s supposed to be a beautiful day.
So what’s new with you? Would you like a warm up? Eclectic Ali’s and join in the conversation!
Enjoy your time up on the lake! I think October get-aways are often better than June.
Thanks, Trent! I think I will enjoy fall kayaking..
The school room looks fascinating! Lucky you for a gorgeous fall camp out. Thanks for the coffee
It was pretty cool! I wasn’t expecting to see it completely restored! We did luck out this weekend, and of course today we pack up and it’s beautiful.
What a fabulous spot! Thank you for taking us there!
We certainly lucked out with the weather!
Hi Kathleen,
Many years ago, I wrote and taught a very popular 4 & 1/2 day long class that I must have taught before live audiences over a 100 times. I spent something like 2 years polishing that class and I received gobs of glowing thanks from both my customers and students. I could almost do the full thing by memory.
The problem is how well I recall those classes going and now every event of my speaking publicly is measured against how that class went at it’s best.– so anything I do now feels terrible.
Then there are the photos of that neat little classroom. I would love to teach there and can see myself loving that room and becoming part of its history.
I will probably gauge the rest of my demos by this one! But I did note a few things I did differently which improved the flow, so I’ll be sure to include them in my next performance. The school was one of Henry Ford’s, I’ll pull some info together on the history if you’d be interested. I was happy to be able to tour the inside and see how well they’ve restored everything. <3
Thank you for the coffee! I love kayaking!
I’ve fallen in love! Now I get the stink eye from my motorcycle parked in the garage! LOL Summer is just not long enough.
What a great historical site–I love things like that, especially when they’re so well taken care of. It’s Thanksgiving weekend up here, and the weather is gorgeous–a good day for a hike! Have a lovely Sunday:-)
mydangblog recently posted…Thanks For Sharing
Happy Thanksgiving to you!! Glad to hear you have nice weather for it! A hike sounds wonderful, I have a few new places I’ve been wanting to check out. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Kathleen,
That school house is gorgeous and it’s wonderful to see a historical classroom so meticulously restored and maintained. I would love to be a teacher or student there, and it would feel like a real time warp.
We’re heading into Spring here, and I went out sailing during the week. Would love to get out on the kayak soon.
Best wishes,
Rowena
It was so neat to see it! I wish we were heading into Spring! I could use a do-over.. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
That classroom is like lifted off the pages of Anne of Green Gables books. So well maintained and not lacking in charm at all😊
