So it’s raining again. The raindrops on the roof sound like a basket of fries being dropped into a fryer. I knew it was going to be a wet weekend, but when you have something planned for months, there is always the hope that the weather miraculously takes a turn for the better.

This Weekend Coffee Share comes to you from Algonac State Park on the St. Clair river. We didn’t get one of the eternally elusive riverfront sites but we’re across the street with a pretty good view of the freighter traffic. Which is what I was looking forward to this weekend. Last night was breezy and cool as we sat out by the fire and got to see two freighters slip by in the darkness. I tried to video the Algoma Harvester as it went by, but I somehow screwed that up and instead got some of the campfire and my feet. Sigh.

One of our neighbors left early this morning so it opened up our view for now. With this fog, I hope I get to see any traffic at all today!  I’m waiting for someone to come by, the fog may actually make for a cool shot. There are two pleasure boats in the area but no freighters, they appear green in the FindShip app.

We rolled up the awning last night in preparation for any wind gusts. We were here last year over the 4th of July and almost had some decent damage. A storm came through and I grabbed my camera and headed for the river just before the rain hit, to get pics of the wicked looking clouds. That left Bill at the campsite when a wind gust lifted up the awning, separating the poles at one end and flipping it up onto the roof. I returned a few minutes later when the skies opened up, carrying my camera under my hoodie, to find Bill holding our dismantled awning and looking at me like, “Really?” We stood under it, trying to slide the poles back in place, being completely soaked by the monsoon-like storm. Luckily, we got it back together and nothing had been broken.

I was tickled this week to be able to get back into Hoopla again and snagged an audiobook copy of The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury. I’ve enjoyed listening to it on my commute, this one and The Troop by Nick Cutter. I honestly don’t know what took me so long to delve into audiobooks to pass the time driving to and from work. Five years I’ve been commuting downtown 45 minutes each way and I’ve just now signed up for Audible. Probably because I thought you had to stream Audible and I don’t have unlimited mobile data. I’ve only learned of Hoopla in the last year or two, which is through my local library. Except I did not have my password recorded anywhere and the Forgot Password link didn’t seem to be working. The folks at my library were super helpful in trying and Hoopla actually responded back pretty quickly when I ended up using their contact form. Yay!  I may just up my reading challenge goal.

The rain is really coming down now, I’m thinking maybe heading into town for some batteries. I brought some “fairy lights”, the battery operated LED lights that are strung on a wire. We had some ideas for under the counter lighting on the kitchen island and also the bar area on the end. Sounds like a good rainy day project. Check my Instagram later, if it works, I’ll share pics!

Well, I hope you stay dry on this crappy, rainy day.   Thanks for stopping by!

  1. RAin and camping do not mix well for me, so kudos to you for hanging tough and doing what you want to do.
