What another glorious fall day!

But it doesn’t make me sick. Haha. We’re in for some really nice weather this week, but I think it’s summer saying goodbye at last. I’m happy and sad at the same time. Happy for this gorgeous weather, sad I can’t be out in it more.

How are you? Grab a cup and come on out to the patio.  I’d love to spend a few chatting before I have to catch up on some work stuff.  If you happened upon my other post for Ten Things of Thankful, you’ll know that we are elated that Bill found his wedding ring. It had been missing since last Sunday when we (he) did work outside. He went back, looked again and found it in the underbelly compartment of our trailer, where he had been while winterizing. So that was great news!

I’m counting the days until my surgery (37) and excitedly shopping for a treadmill. They want me to walk as much as I can afterwards, something which I am positively DYING to do. Walking is my favorite exercise and I loved to go to the gym with an audio or ebook and just get lost for an hour. Now, I can limp around my house at best and the scale is definitely showing my lack of exercise. If you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them. I’d like something ideally that is as compact as possible when I fold it up.

I’m also excited to gear up for Nano Poblano in November, which is kind of a spinoff of NaBloPoMo. There is also a Facebook page called Cheer Peppers. Always a fun time. Probably the worst timing possible with my trying to wrap up work before I go out and I will probably be blogging from the hospital the day of, but I still want to give it a go.

So. I’ll see how much of this day I can salvage in between tasks. I hope it’s nice where you are and I look forward to popping over for a visit.  Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hi Kathleen, how lovely that you have a date for your surgery! As you know, I can so relate to not being able to walk and do what you want. I’m better now and can go for (slow) walks now so that’s great. Nano Poblano sounds like something that could be fun. I tried the April A-Z blog challenge years ago and it was really hard but I enjoyed it. In recent years I’ve always been too busy at that time of the year, but I’ll see next year if I can join.

Regarding exercise, couldn’t you go to the gym and do exercises for your upper body?

    1. I could but standing from a sitting position is agony.. So getting out of my car is a bit rough right now. I *should* just do upper body stuff at home with the dumbbells I have. But yes, I need to focus on upper body and have reasons to – kayaking and motorcycling!

      1. Ouch, I hear you. And I know it’s hard to get started at home. I have all the stuff to do weight lifting at home but I still didn’t do anything consistent until I found my PT. Now I go to a small gym in town every Friday and get a good, personalised program, and I do certain things at home that he’s showed me.

  2. Kathleen, Thank you for your weekend coffee share. That’s good news to have a date for your surgery. If you just use the treadmill for post-op exercises, perhaps you want to look into renting one, as opposed to buying. I don’t know if such option exists in your area.

  3. Hi Kathleen – you must be so excited to have a surgery date and to know that there is an end in sight from that grinding pain. I was fortunate to find a great pre-hab class to attend each week leading up to my surgery, and we have a Total Gym (which is a bit like a Pilates machine) that I used for some exercising – walking on a treadmill would have been out of the question in the lead-up, and now that the surgery is done, I would rather be walking outside and enjoying escaping our four walls. I hope you find a suitable machine if that’s the way you want to go. Looking forward to hearing how your op and recovery goes.

    1. Yes! I can’t wait to walk outside again.. My last hip was done in February, so I was just in time for spring. Now I’ll be just in time for winter!
      Continued wishes for your healing!
