Hello and come on in! I’m just about to brew some of my new Halloween coffee finds I just happened upon at Aldi! Grab a chair and get comfy.
How’ve you been? It’s been pretty busy here. Today is October 1st, it’s my favorite time of year and yet it won’t be the same. Normally, my opening day for Halloween decorating is September 1st (or shortly after) and my decorations would be up, or at least almost finished. This year, I’ve been hobbling around just trying to stay on top of the normal things. Everything is still in boxes though I did fold and purchase some new bat and witch hat decorations, also at Aldi.
My bum hip has pretty much ruined my season, though I won’t dwell on that too much and still try and make the best of it. We should be camping this weekend and next, next weekend being the Halloween campout that I SCRAMBLE to get a campsite for every year. I cancelled both trips. The more active I am, the worse my hip feels at the end of the day. Why go if I can’t enjoy myself?
Ugh.
So. It’s OK. Tons of scary movies and books to lose myself into, I suppose. And I WILL get some decorations up, if not all. Speaking of books, I finished The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (had to hurry up before Libby auto-returned it on me) and today I will start House of Leaves, a physical book I’ve had for some time, that I’ve heard is rather gripping but formatted weird. Flipping through the pages, I’d agree, but I’m still excited to check it out for myself.
Last Sunday I made Cowboy Candy from my jalapeno harvest. The recipe says to store it in the fridge for two weeks so I have another week to go. I can’t wait to try it though. There are several ways to serve it but I think the most amazing one was over cream cheese with crackers! OMG.
We still have very green tomatoes on the vine and some rather large peppers that are not ripening very fast. Some of my Hungarian Wax are long, but still green. Then others are tiny, but yellow. It’s been an odd garden season.
Well, I have lots of work work to do, so off I go. I’ll be sure to take breaks and stop by your coffee shares. Thank you for stopping by mine today and to Natalie for always hosting us.

I’m sorry your hip is causing you so much trouble! I hope you’re able to do a little decorating and enjoy the season.
I used to make pepper jelly and pour it over cream cheese–so good.
Thank you.. I have lots of work work again this weekend trying to wrap things up but I’ll be sure to set aside some Halloweeny time. Mmmm, cream cheese – this is exactly how I want to try my cowboy candy!
Ugh – Kathleen.
Sorry that hip is still cramping your life.
I too used to love camping much more than now.
The old knees just don’t work as good as they once did.
🙂 Thank you. I can’t wait until I get past this. There are times I miss the roughing it style camping.. Glamping has been nice though. I’ll never forget when we bought our first trailer – a 1977 Holiday Rambler.. our second trip out it was 34 degrees that night and there were guys in tents camping next to us. I was peeking out the frost covered window at them and right at that moment, the camper furnace kicked on. I was SO grateful..
Hi Kathleen – I can totally relate to the more you do the more your hip hurts. Mine was feeling a bit better recently, and then I realized it was because I hadn’t done much walking for a couple of days – the inflamation was probably reduced. Enjoy what you can and maybe you’ll be joining me on the operating table soon?
Yes! 11/29 can’t come soon enough. I can’t believe just how much worse this is than the last time. Good luck with your pain management as well!
Interesting selection of coffees. Cowboy candy sounds like an adult treat. I would probably not be able to try it because of the jalpenos. Enjoy your new books.

Thank you! Yes, I left the seeds in and OMG! Next time I will omit the seeds and membrane.
