coffee mugs

Good Morning and come on in! Make yourself comfy. There is coffee and tea, and I’d highly recommend a limited edition Thomas Pumpkin Spice english muffin! They are delish.

How was your week? Mine again was insanely busy and I will need to hop back online today to wrap up some more work before Monday. We are also supposed to get 3″ – 5″ of the beloved white stuff all day Monday, so I am INCREDIBLY glad to have the remote work option. Not that that is a lot of snow for this region – it will just tack SO much time onto the commute.

Thursday we got our first snow accumulation, which dusted our pumpkins. After Halloween, I turn them around so the uncarved side faces out. Voila! Fall decorations for a bit longer! Until their demise. It reminded me of a recipe I saw once that I may try for Thanksgiving, it was called Frost on the Pumpkin Pie and if I remember correctly, it was like a frozen pumpkin cheesecake.

I am in the final week to submit my paper for my LSS Green Belt certification and I was hoping to get a response by now from my consultant at work – I’d sent him a draft for feedback. But, it’s fourth quarter and I know we are all very busy.  I’m just anxious to know if I’m on the right track. I also need to run it by my leadership so it really needs to go to them tomorrow or Tuesday. Yikes. I have more work to do today than I thought.

Last night we went with another couple to the Fox Theater in downtown Detroit for the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Great Cheesy Movie Circus tour! It was a lot of fun and really nice to get out with friends, something we don’t do often. I haven’t watched the show much lately and now I’m in the mood to catch up. If you’re not familiar, it’s about a janitor named Joel Robinson who is kidnapped by two mad scientists and is forced to watch B movies as part of their plot to take over the world. He creates several other characters to keep his sanity and they together poke fun at these hilariously bad movies. (wikipedia)

It was a fun night. I was introduced to the show by my sister and then found that a friend of mine and her husband also watched it. So together we made plans to go see it live. The movie of choice was No Retreat, No Surrender, with Jean Claude Van Damme. There have been several hosts over the years but this tour was the last for the original host and creator of the show, Joel Hodgson.

My toner just arrived!  How nice, they left it at the back door and knocked, instead of leaving it on the porch. I hope it works – I chose the brand compatible kind instead of the brand name toner cartridge and it was quite less expensive. I’m so happy to have a laser printer instead of an inkjet – I’d print one page and then by the time I’d use it again, the brand new ink cartridge would be dry.  Nerdy girl joys!

More coffee?

I should also get out and rake some leaves. Our yard is FULL and we still have one tree to go. I’ll schedule the task in today much like I’ve been doing, literally setting an actual time to get something done. If I don’t, it seems like the day just slips away. I’ve been doing that at work, too. Block out time in my calendar so it shows busy and then even putting myself on Do Not Disturb. If I don’t, older tasks just get older and they don’t get completed. But as I always say, I’d rather be busy than have nothing to do. A happy medium would be nice though.

Dead Leaves, a bookAre you reading anything good? I’m still working on Dead Leaves: 9 Tales from the Witching Season, by Kealan Patrick Burke. It’s a short book of short stories, but I haven’t had much time to read lately. This was an October read along with several others that I will now probably reshelve back on to the TBR list for the next Halloween season.

I received my November Night Worms box (excited that it came so early!) which contained three new books! As usual, I’ll wait a bit so that others receive their boxes before posting about my new literary goodness.

Plus I ordered Born Under a Good Sign, by Kristy Robinette, and today I should be receiving 29 Missing: The True and Tragic Story of the Disappearance of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Timely, as today is the 44th anniversary of that horrible night on Lake Superior.

Well, I should be going, so I can start this long list of To Dos I just told you about!  I thought I had not a lot to say and feel like I just talked your ear off. Thanks so much for stopping by, it’s always great to visit with you.

  1. Thank you so much for the coffee! How smart to turn your pumpkins around and enjoy them a bit longer! Fall is a beautiful season. I actually enjoy raking leaves. Maybe because I know what good they will do once added to my garden, or compost 🙂 Or maybe it’s just thinking back about raking leaves with my friends? It was always the kids chores, so it didn’t matter what friend you played with after school in the fall…there was always raking to do. LOL. Enjoy your day!

    1. I grew up on a quarter acre (big yard for our suburb) and raked SO many leaves growing up. Then my Dad made us rake them against the base of the house for insulation. Then rake them away in the spring, all rotted and slug covered and wheelbarrow them into the garden for compost. I can’t say it was a fun memory.. LOL Thanks as always for joining me for coffee!

    1. Yes, I think I will make it if my sister requests me bringing a dessert this year. Too funny, I was just telling Maria about my not so fond memories of raking leaves! It must be nice in So Cal, though? I love the warm weather.

    1. Haha, mine too! Some of the things he comes up with are hilarious and I’ve started tracking them in a file called Bill-isms.. Then I read them back later and he doesn’t even remember saying some of them. LOL Thanks for stopping by!
