Good morning, blogosphere. I’ve missed you all. It’s good to be back and sharing a cup with you after the last few weeks. You may remember from a recent post that my Dad was having health issues. I’m sad to say we lost him on May 27th.. 🙁  He was 93 and in hospice for about a month, so we all had time to think about the grim reality, and we’ve spent the last week healing. Dad was a Navy veteran and he will still have his full military honor at a later date, but all services have been postponed because of this stupid virus.

It’s a beautiful morning on the patio and it’s moments like this, among many others that, I’ll remember him by. Mornings were his favorite time of the day, when everything is calm and quiet except for the chirp of the birds. Today is supposed to be a gorgeous day, high of 79 and right now the sky is clear as a bell.

Other than that rough patch on this road of life, things are good. The repeated fires at work are slowing down to just a few fires per week, we are still working full time remote at least until the end of June. I filled up my gas tank the other day in I can’t remember how long.

My garden is coming in very nicely, however I’m worried about the pepper plants. We had a few freezes after I put them in and I did cover them, but I’m afraid their growth may have been stunted (which is what my Dad had warned me about!) We’ll see. I’ve already cleaned the helicopters from my maple trees out several times and next year I’ll for sure try some kind of a green house solution at least until June after these things are done falling.

And sage is flowering!

I also get into daily arguments with Momma Robin, as she decided to build her house over top of my garden and isn’t too thrilled when I come out to work on it. I have, however gotten to meet one of her children, when he poked his beak over the edge of the next. If that’s not the most disapproving expression a robin could have, I don’t know what is!

Friday was a scorcher and I got a wild hair and decided I wanted a pool. Just something small to cool off in, I don’t know that I want to sign up for the real deal just yet. I was chatting with my pool-having neighbor and she mentioned they were all sold out. And they are! Everywhere. I should have known. The public pools are still closed + summer is here + kids are home = no pools anywhere. However, I did find one online for a bit more than they are going for (of course) and it is scheduled to arrive on Friday.

Soon we plan to hop on the bikes for some much needed wind therapy.  Our plan is to visit the campground we booked a site at for August. Hopefully we can get in to take a look before we arrive with the trailer.

With that, I’ll let you enjoy this day, I hope it’s as nice where you are. I hope you had a great week and are still staying safe!   Stop by Eclectic Ali’s and join in the conversation!

    1. Thank you Antoinette.. <3 I'm pretty happy with my little plot. My sister also sent me okra seeds. Not sure where to put them.
      Have a great week!

  1. I am very sorry about your dad. When you say veteran, did he serve in WWII?

Spring/early summer has finally arrived! Hope you have a great week.

  2. Sincere condolences over the loss of your father. It’s a particularly hard time when we can’t honour those we love in the way they deserve–I hope he gets his full military memorial sooner than later:-)

    1. Thank you so much, Suzanne.. It’s been insult to injury to not even be with him. His facility has done a fabulous job at protecting their residents from COVID, but unfortunately that meant no visitors. 🙁 At least we had Zoom video calls. Yes, I look forward to his proper memorial..

  3. Sorry for our loss..
93 is almost a century of life to celebrate.

At some point I was contemplating digging a hole in my back yard then lining it with plastic meticulously glued together and boom pool hahaha then I woke up from that dream, besides its not winter this side of the hemisphere

  4. I saw about your dad earlier. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Your garden looks absolutely beautiful I have never had neat rows in mud garden. I don’t know how people do that. I have the same thoughts about may pepper plants as you have. They look OK, but I know there have been a few cold nights some I planted them outside. I lost some squash and tomatoes earlier this season. The tomato plants I have now are tiny. “Learning by doing”….I’m new to gardening in this area and our nights are still pretty cool, upper 30’s, lower 40’s. I need a greenhouse 🙂 I hope you got to enjoy your bike ride, and the rest of this beautiful weekend ❤

    1. Thank you so much. <3 It still doesn't seem real.. 🙁

I'm looking forward to harvesting the lettuce. This is the first time I've tried it. Growing up, my mom would send me out to the garden with a bowl and pair of scissors to cut lettuce for our dinner salad. I always thought that was so neat. I now know not to plant until mid-May here in Michigan. We definitely learn as we go! Have a great week..
