coffee

Good morning and thank you for joining me on the patio on what we finally get to call a summer morning! Soon it will be very hot and humid and I’ll be paddling across Newburgh Lake, evening out my tan lines.  No complaints though – I think summer has finally arrived. We’ve had so much rain and not so warm weather over the last several months.

I’ve been absent from our coffee shares – life just has been crazy. Super, super busy at work which spills over into off work hours, my case study for my Lean Six Sigma project, it’s been a matter of keeping all the balls in the air. I’ve missed you all and look forward to catching up!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I’m looking forward to our installation of new windows. We are long overdue and it will be nice to have that project in our rear view mirror and on to the next one, which will be a new garage roof and all new gutters. Last on the list (for now) is vinyl privacy fencing all the way around, though I had the fence company split the quote in two sections. I’m hoping to get at least the smaller section done this year.

If we were having coffee, I’d be tickled to show you the progress of my blackberry bush! Amazing what happens when you water your plants! With all this rain we’ve gotten, I don’t know if that’s what it needed or it simply needed a few years to start producing.

I’m so excited to see if they survive and can be picked without the birds getting to them first.  Also, I will need to transplant it at some point and research the proper way.  I put it in the corner of my yard near the fence when it was a tiny twig.  When the new fence goes in, I’m afraid it might be damaged, plus if it stays there it will be shaded from the sun by the new fence, which will be solid, not chain link.  🙂  Planning!

On the landscaping note, we tore out our HUGE front bushes.  They had gotten way too big and were difficult to reach with a trimmer, they were right under the windows (security risk) and I really want to do something different with the front landscaping. So out they came. I’m excited to plan it out once we get it cleaned up. I have hostas in the backyard that are getting huge and could be split, along with my irises and day lilies. And the daisies!  They’ve multiplied like crazy. I think I’ll have enough to populate the new space in front.

You’d think with being absent for this long I’d have more to talk about. I need to take better notes throughout the week! I should probably skate, lots to fit into this weekend!

  1. I have good news for you. Blackberries are hard to kill once they started to grow. You can soak the ground around the bush, dig it up, and put it wherever you want it. I’ve always loved blackberries. My first property in California had several acres of them. I miss that a lot. I’m so happy that you got some sunshine your way. I know you’ve been longing for that for a while now. Enjoy!

    1. Thank you, that is such great news! They’re getting bigger by the day, and I’m afraid the birds are watching them as closely as I am!

  2. It has been raining her all week with some thunder storms and hail mixed in. I am still wondering where summer is.

New windows sounds very exciting! I enjoy house renovations. It is so nice to see the changes to the home.

    Have a great week.
